Important Update: New Customs Clearance & Tax Collection Procedures for Canada

We have been advised by Revenue Canada that due to recent tax changes and the upcoming implementation of the Canadian Automated Risk Management Solution (CARMS) by Canadian Customs, we can no longer offer customs clearance on behalf of our clients. This new system aims to streamline and enhance the accuracy of customs processing but requires changes in how businesses handle their imports.

To accommodate these regulatory changes, we offer two options for our clients:

Option 1: Set Up an Account with a Customs Broker

You can establish an account with a customs broker of your choice. We will continue to handle shipping through FedEx, but your broker will be responsible for clearing the goods and ensuring all taxes are paid. For small businesses, we recommend Clearit.ca, a company specializing in customs clearance services. Clearit.ca offers a range of solutions tailored to small business needs, including:

  • Simplified online customs clearance process.
  • Competitive pricing.
  • Professional advice and support for navigating customs requirements.
  • Comprehensive services for both one-time and frequent importers.

While we do not have direct experience working with Clearit.ca, their reputation and service offerings position them as a reliable option for small businesses.

Option 2: FedEx Customs Clearance

We can ship your goods via FedEx, allowing them to handle the customs clearance process. FedEx will collect the applicable fees upon delivery in Canada. Please note, the specifics of this process may vary, and it might require you to pick up the product from a FedEx location. Unfortunately, detailed procedures can vary on a case-by-case basis, and we recommend contacting FedEx directly for more information.

We understand that these changes may cause some inconvenience and we apologize for any disruption this may cause. Unfortunately, these adjustments are necessary due to the new Canadian regulations. For the interim, we will proceed with Option 2 as the default method, giving our clients time to set up their accounts with a customs broker if they prefer Option 1.

Should you have any questions or wish to discuss these options further, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and are here to support you through this change.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
